LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A judge has granted a jury trial for the former director of the Lawrence County Animal Shelter facing abuse charges.
Bobbie Taylor was set to go before a judge in a bench trial on Wednesday but her attorneys filed a motion to move to a jury trial.
A Lawrence County judge granted the motion, moving Taylor's trial to the circuit court.
Taylor is facing 17 counts of animal abuse and neglect. In July 2015, authorities found more than 300 dogs, cats and other animals in horrible conditions at Taylor's shelter after claims of alleged animal abuse surfaced from a former shelter volunteer.
Just days before that, the Lawrence County Commission terminated their contract with Taylor to control animal services. After denying those allegations of abuse Taylor eventually turned herself in but maintained her innocence.
A judge has not yet set a new date for Taylor's trial.
