Bench trial to begin for former Lawrence County animal shelter director

LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - The former Lawrence County Animal Shelter Director who faces 17 counts of animal abuse and neglect will finally have her day in court.

Bobbie Taylor's bench trial is scheduled to start Wednesday morning in Lawrence County.

Authorities found more than 300 dogs, cats, and other animals in horrible conditions at Taylor's shelter back in July of 2015 after claims of alleged animal abuse surfaced from a former shelter volunteer.

Just days before that, the Lawrence County Commission terminated their contract with Taylor to control animal services. After denying those allegations of abuse Taylor eventually turned herself in but maintained her innocence.

She says the animals were already sick and injured when they came to the shelter and she did her best to care for them.

If all goes as planned a judge will now decide if Taylor is innocent or guilty.

The trial begins Wednesday morning at 8:30.
