SYLVANIA, AL (WAFF) - A Sylvania man is facing assault charges after a teenager was shot.
On April 27, 64-year-old Ronnie Lee Neeley, of Sylvania, turned himself in to DeKalb County Sheriff's Office on two counts of menacing and one count each of discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle and assault.
The charges stem from an incident in Sylvania on Saturday, April 23, when a 16-year-old was shot in the hip.
The teen was treated and released from Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga for his injuries.
The teen was with a group others who were attempting to roll a neighbor's yard with toilet paper. The victim was in a vehicle at the time he was shot.
"This is a traumatic incident that could have been tragic had the bullet taken a different path. We are very thankful that the child did not suffer any more injury than he did," said DeKalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris.
