HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Huntsville City leaders will celebrate the opening of the first phase of the new Dr. Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard.

The first phase of the new construction will be located in downtown Huntsville.

Mayor Tommy Battle will open the road and release updated information on infrastructure improvements in the downtown area at an event on April 22 at 10 a.m.

Those who plan to attend can meet at the southwest corner of Lowery Boulevard, close to the Governor's Drive entrance.

Lowery, who was born in Huntsville, was a United Methodist minister and leader in the civil rights movement.
