ATHENS, AL (WAFF) - Athens police believe they have the suspect responsible for a gas station robbery in custody.

Police were called to the Citgo station on Highway 72 East near I-65 just after 10 p.m. the night of Jan. 24.

The store manager told investigators a man walked to the beer cooler and brought a 12-pack of beer to the counter. When the manager told the man he couldn't sell beer on a Sunday, the man pulled a gun and demanded money.

After the manager handed over money, the man left, walking across the parking lot to a nearby Krystal restaurant, where he got into a waiting vehicle, which then drove off.

Cullman police later contacted Athens investigators saying they had developed a suspect in the gas station robbery.

The Cullman County Sheriff's Department arrested William Jackson Dooley on Tuesday on a warrant for first-degree robbery.

He was transported to the Athens Police Department, where he was booked and then transferred to the Limestone County Jail.
