HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Huntsville school and city officials broke ground for a brand new school.

The new $35 million Morris School is being built next door to the current school on Bob Wallace Avenue.

School officials said right now they're working to revitalize six old school buildings across the city.

The school board president said this new school will have all the bells and whistles for a happier learning environment.

"It would have all the safety features of the new facilities, as well as all the new technologies and it would have an MOU with the Botanical Gardens and it would have an environmental theme to it," said Huntsville School Board President Laurie McCaulley.

The school is expected to open in 2017.
