LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Lauderdale County Sheriff's Deputy Dee Peters is fighting for her life in Huntsville Hospital.

Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton says Peters has been in ICU  since January 17 following her injuries in a car crash in the northern part of the county.

Peters is assigned to the Lauderdale County Detention Center where she works as a corrections officer.

Sheriff Singleton says Peters has exhausted all of her leave time and is no longer able to draw a paycheck from the county.

"Like family, we like to take care of our own, our employees have stepped up, they're helping her, she's at risk of losing everything she owns, including her home," said Singleton.

They're setting up a fund at Progress Bank to help her.
