MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - The Madison County Courthouse is issuing same-sex marriage licenses as of Thursday morning.

This comes after Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore issued an administrative order Wednesday stating probate judges must uphold the Alabama Sanctity of Marriage Amendment or the Alabama Marriage Protection Act.

Same-sex supporters rallied at the Madison County Courthouse on Wednesday night after Moore's order was announced.

Moore also ordered a halt to same-sex marriage licensing in Feb. of 2015.

A same-sex couple was issued their license on Thursday morning at the Madison County probate judge's office.
