Annual Polar Bear Plunge in Decatur canceled due to conditions of TN River

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - The Polar Bear Plunge in Decatur has been canceled due to conditions of the Tennessee River.

This would have been the 32 annual plunge.

Wane Holliday started the Polar Bear Plunge and said flooding over the past week is the reason for the cancellation.

Each year, hundreds of people take the plunge on New Year's Day into the icy Tennessee River then swim to the boat ramp.

Organizers usually sell t-shirts, and proceeds last year went to the Meals on Wheels program.
