Drug court graduates get clean slate, new opportunity

MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - More than a dozen people graduated from Madison County's Adult Drug Court on Monday.

Now these graduates have a clean slate and charges against them have been dropped.

The graduates take part in a 52-week program that includes mandatory substance abuse treatment and random drug testing.

The program is monitored by a judge, prosecutor, defense attorneys, treatment providers, mentors, law enforcement and program coordinators.

Organizers and graduates say this program is a huge success.

"It gets you a clean record and basically a fresh start at life," explained graduate Byron Moore. "All you got to do is take the opportunity and make the best of it."

Judge Claude Hundley oversees this program.

He says it's also a win for taxpayers because the drug court program is more cost-effective than housing inmates on non-violent substance abuse charges.
