MADISON, AL (WAFF) - The first ever 'Coffee with a Sheriff' was held Tuesday in Madison.

Sheriff Dorning and several other deputies and other law enforcement officials showed up to have coffee with the residents at Mapco on Highway 72.

They explained, they were there to talk to anyone who wanted to about common issues or help solve community problems.

WAFF 48 spoke with one woman, who said she was surprised Tuesday morning, when she walked in and saw a dozen officers in one place.

"At first I thought there was something crazy going on, and then I remembered what was going on today. I was just happy they were here and that I was able to meet with them. With all that is going on in the world, it's not just Black Lives Matter, all lives matter, everyone is important, and I'm glad they are here to protect everyone," said Markita Green, Madison County resident.

Residents got free coffee as they spoke with officers Tuesday morning.

"We are pleased to partner with Mapco and the opportunity to connect with our community with good free coffee and conversation," said Sheriff Dorning.

Sheriff Dorning said they would like to hold more events like this in the future throughout Madison County.
