HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The funeral for 43-year-old Doris Timmons of Huntsville is planned for Saturday. Investigators say Timmons was shot and killed by 45-year-old Cary Jefferson.
Friday, Timmons' family gathered to pray for women and men currently in a violent relationship.
"If you don't tell anyone and you just keep it to yourself and the next thing you know it's too late," Timmons brother, James Fletcher said.
Timmons was killed by a single gunshot, at the hands of her partner.
"Please get out of it before it ends up coming to the point that we are in right now," Fletcher said. "At the point that we got a loved one we have to see gone."
They say reaching out to anyone could make all the difference.
"Just talking to the next person you know," Christy Sales said. "You never know how that could go as far as that could save your life."
As they remembered a life gone too soon, they hope their message can encourage even one person to get help.
"Don't stay in the relationship," Fletcher said. "Get out of it. It's not worth it. I don't care how much you love this person. Remember your life is more important."
