Decatur woman arrested for chemical endangerment of child

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - Decatur police have arrested a woman for chemical endangerment to her son.

November 24, Shannon Nicole Eggerd gave birth to her son at the Decatur Morgan Hospital Parkway campus. After giving birth, the boy tested positive for cocaine and opiates.

An investigation showed that Eggerd had taken Percosets and Suboxone without a prescription while she was pregnant. The investigation also found that she had used cocaine during the pregnancy and she was fully aware she was pregnant at the time of use.

December 1, police arrested Eggerd on unrelated charges. She was the arrested on December 2 for chemical endangerment of a child.

She was transferred to the Morgan County Jail on a $2,500 bond.

At this time it is unknown if the boy will suffer and long term effects from the drug usage.
