GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The city of Guntersville is gearing up for the arrival of Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio, who is expected in the city to campaign on Tuesday.
Guntersville last hosted a presidential candidate in 1984 - former astronaut John Glenn.
After a campaign stop in South Carolina earlier in the day, Marco Rubio is expected at the Senior Center in Guntersville for a fundraiser from 3 p.m.
His visit there is expected to last about an hour.
Then it's on to the Recreation Center Gymnasium to begin his political rally to the general public.
The state co-chairman for Rubio's campaign says they worked hard with his people to get him to come to Guntersville, which is rare for such a small community.
Will Ainsworth says he believes Rubio will be a fine choice for the Republican nomination for president.
"Senator Rubio is a solid family man, a Christian," said Ainsworth. I think he's got a great vision for America. I think he can unite the Republican Party. I think he can win the White House back, and I think if you really look at policy, he's hands down the best candidate that has a great plan for every issue and how to lead America forward."
Rubio's speech to the public is free to attend an expected to begin around 4:15 p.m.
