4 in custody after drug bust near New Hope

NEW HOPE, AL (WAFF) - Four people are in custody following a methamphetamine bust Monday near New Hope.

New Hope Police, Madison County sheriff's deputies and STAC agents were called to a home in the 4500 block of Hobbs Island Road.

Police said they received calls from neighbors about a fire and a strong chemical odor in the air.

Officers arrived to find three men and a woman cooking meth inside.

"They were burning what appeared to be precursors used in the manufacturing [of meth]," said Chief Steven Dick.

The chief said said all three suspects tried to run, but were all captured.

The names of the suspects have not been released at this time; but they face a slew of charges including manufacturing and distribution of meth and eluding police.
