Madison Co. Sheriff sues Metro Jail medical contractor

MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - The Madison County Sheriff is suing the company contracted to take care of medical needs for inmates at the Madison County Jail.
Sheriff Blake Dorning says Advanced Correctional Healthcare, known as ACH, is responsible for providing health care at all times to inmates. He also says ACH took on all liability involving inmate medical care.
The insurance company that provides additional coverage concerning the liability with running a jail is also named in the suit.
The lawsuit cites three times that families of inmates have sued the county over alleged negligent treatment by medical staff.
The sheriff says the insurance company is now refusing to cover those claims, meaning the costs now fall on ACH.
The County wants a judge to force ACH to pay for all of the costs in connection with the lawsuits filed by the inmates' families.
