HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Police confronted a robbery suspect in the area of Butler Terrace in Huntsville on Saturday.

Investigators said the suspect was shot in the shoulder by police.

Police said a woman called 911 to report a stolen vehicle and apparently followed the vehicle until police were able to catch up.

Officers confronted the suspect along Harden Avenue at around 2 p.m.

Police said they viewed the suspect reaching for his waistband. An officer then shot the suspect once in the shoulder.

"We do have two witnesses who corroborate [that] the suspect was reaching to pull something from the waistband, as well as the female complainant who called in and advised that the vehicle was stolen," said Lieutenant Larry Childress.

The suspect, whose identity has not been revealed, was transported to Huntsville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police interviewed the officer and several witnesses. They will also review dash cam footage as the investigation continues.

At this time they are not releasing details regarding whether the suspect had a weapon.
