WOODVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A pair of brothers hauling a brand-new Corvette from Atlantic City said seat belts no doubt saved their lives after a terrifying plunge in Jackson County, Alabama Wednesday.

The brothers were transporting the 2016 Corvette, worth about $62,000, and were just four miles from reaching their destination when their rental truck wrecked.

The truck detached from the trailer carrying the car and went over the side of a bridge on Highway 72 near Woodville, landing on its roof in the creek bed.

One brother cut himself out of his seat belt and helped the other from the wreckage. They said the cab was beginning to take on water, and having a side window already down sped up their escape efforts.

Despite the wreck and the freefall, the men only suffered a few bumps and scratches.

Traffic on Highway 72 was reduced to one lane while the truck was winched up from the creek bed and the trailer - Corvette fully intact - was taken from the scene.

An investigation into the cause of the wreck is ongoing.
