FAYETTEVILLE, TN (WAFF) - Police in Tennessee are searching for Michael Domonic Sales, the suspect in the shooting death of 19-year old Carlton Caruth early Sunday morning.

According to police, Sales and Caruth were attending a party at a game room on Main Street Saturday night. Sources said the argument began inside, then the two men stepped outside. That's when Sales allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Caruth.

A vigil is being held Tuesday night in Fayetteville to mourn Caruth.

Caruth's mother, Emily, said this isn't the first time gun violence has affected her family. Her daughter was killed - and now, her son.

People who knew Carlton and his family say Carlton was a unique individual, who wanted to do something with his life and make a difference in the world.

He was well liked by his peers, and heavily involved with his church, St. Paul's in Fayetteville.

Montie Dangerfield, an English teacher who had Caruth in his class twice, in the 7th and 11th grades said he was always helpful and respectful.

The kind of young man who would always respond to his teachers yes ma'am, no ma'am, and simply a joy to be around.

"He was just a sweet spirit, that's one of the reasons I think this community is behind his family so much. He just didn't deserve this to happen to him. He would not do anything to incite any kind of violence. And I think, the thing that breaks my heart the most, is that if this guy who took his life knew him, just took a moment to know him, he never would have done what he did" said Montie Dangerfield, Caruth's 7th and 11th grade teacher.

Fayetteville police have enlisted the help of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation to find Sales, and have placed him on their Top 10 Most wanted list.

Police know that Sales has family in the Bedford county area, but also said that by this point, he could be hundreds of miles away.

TBI says that Sales was last seen in a silver Chrysler 300 and is considered to be armed and dangerous.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of the suspect, Michael Domonic Sales, contact Fayetteville Police Department at (931) 433-1529. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest.
