LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A late night shooting in Lauderdale County leaves two men in critical condition.

The shooting happened around 10:30 Wednesday night in the St. Florian community.

Investigators are trying to determine what sparked an argument between the 3 men involved to send tempers flaring.

Investigators were back at the scene off Saltzburg Lane collecting evidence Thursday morning, using a drone to collect aerial photos of the
property.

They say three men in their 50s were inside the home when they got into an argument.

Investigators say Jeffrey Wilson left the home and returned with two guns. They say he fired his shotgun at Carl Eckle, shooting him in the stomach. The third man in the home, Richard Mayne, grabbed a pistol and fired two shots in the air. That is when they say Wilson pointed his gun at Mayne but Mayne shot first.

Eckle was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital and Wilson to Vanderbilt.

"Alcohol and guns do not mix and that's a perfect example of what happened last night,"  said Richard Richey, Lauderdale County Chief Deputy

At last check both men were in critical condition.

Eckle had surgery for his injuries in Huntsville Thursday morning.
