LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Despite making a previous confession, a Shoals murder suspect has entered a not-guilty plea.
Investigators said Joshua Balentine confessed to the 2014 murder of Royce Varnell.
Varnell, who was wheelchair-bound, was found beaten to death inside his Anderson home.
Authorities said Balentine sent a note asking Lauderdale County investigators to come talk to him while serving time in a Mississippi jail because he wanted to confess to Varnell's murder.
Investigators said Balentine gave them details only the person responsible for the crime would know.
Balentine has served his time in Mississippi and is now being held in the Lauderdale County Jail.
