FRANKLIN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A Franklin County woman is behind bars after she tried to cut through the jail's fence to bring in contraband.
Surveillance video from the jail shows the woman, later identified as 42-year-old Talisha McCann, using bolt cutters trying to cut her way into the jail's yard.
Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said his guards spotted her Tuesday night just before midnight. Investigators say responding officers scared her away, but she didn't get far before they found her.
"She had two gallon-sized bags of tobacco, a small amount of suboxone strips, and a cell phone that she was trying to get inside," said Oliver.
McCann faces a list of charges including criminal trespassing, possession of burglar tools and promoting prison contraband.
Oliver said he's never seen anyone try to break in to a jail before, but says his jailers constantly fight contraband issues.
"This is a constant battle every day, they try to throw stuff over the fence or they'll leave it where maybe if they go out to clean they can pick it up or something of that nature," said Oliver.
McCann is no stranger to the Franklin County Jail. Oliver said she was released about two weeks ago on probation for unrelated charges.
