ATHENS, AL (WAFF) - The Athens City Council took steps Monday to ensure they are ready for the next winter storm.

Council members approved the purchase of two sand and salt spreaders and two snowplows.

The estimated cost is more than $25,700.

City officials said they had to retrofit a standard truck for use as a snowplow during a snowstorm earlier this year.
