DeKalb Co. corrections officer arrested for tampering with gov't records

DEKALB COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A Dekalb County corrections officer was arrested Wednesday for tampering with government records, according to the DeKalb County sheriff.

Sheriff Jimmy Harris says Nicholas Butler, 32, a Scottsboro resident, was arrested after an investigation by the Department Homeland Security and the sheriff's office. He was also fired from his job at the county detention center.

The investigation into the case is ongoing at this time, according to Chief Jail Administrator Matt Martin, and more charges may be forthcoming.

"This is an extremely unfortunate incident and our investigators and Homeland Security are doing everything possible to bring an end to this case," said Harris.
