(WAFF) - One man is dead and another in custody Monday after a stabbing on Stewart Road in Tanner.

Deputies said Michael Peoples, 35 of Limestone County, was rushed to Athens-Limestone Hospital in Athens on Monday around 2 p.m. Limestone County sheriff's deputies say he was taken to the hospital as a "priority 0" patient.

Benjamin Waddle, 26 of Decatur, is in custody in connection with the stabbing death, according to Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely.

Blakely said the homeowner is the main witness. He said they were all friends and Waddle and Peoples got into an argument and went outside to fight. The witness said as Waddle and Peoples walked out the door, Waddle stabbed Peoples in the back several times with a long sheath knife.

Medflight was called to the scene, but Peoples was too unstable and was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
