JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A man reported missing in Jackson County was found dead on County Road 81 on Monday morning, according to search crews.

Johnny Carson Stokes, 46, of Flat Rock, was reported missing when he didn't show up for work Monday. He had last been seen Saturday, when he planned to ride his dirt bike on the land where he lived. That land was owned by the Stokes' employer.

Not ten minutes had passed when the initial searchers who began before the rescue squad arrived found the man in a ditch not far from his driveway. His boss said he told him of plans to go riding his bike on the property Sunday but when he went to pick him up neither the man nor the bike were to be found.

Sheriff Chuck Phillips said the traffic accident is now being turned over to the state troopers.

"He just left the roadway coming around that curve," said Phillips. "He went down into a ditch which was very rocky, lost control, he didn't have a helmet on. The bike is about eight or ten feet past him so it just throwed him off."
