Man identified in chase, shooting near Joppa

MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - The man who led deputies on a chase near Joppa early Monday morning has been identified and warrants have now been issued for his arrest.
Wesley Brenden Speegle, 24, of Joppa is wanted for reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, attempting to elude, receiving stolen property and several other traffic violations.
Marshall County Sheriff Scott Walls said one of his deputies tried to stop a vehicle around 2 a.m. Monday when the vehicle took off with the deputy in pursuit, at which point Walls said shots were fired from the fleeing vehicle.

The chase continued into Morgan County, before ending near Double S Mountain. Police said Speegle fled into a nearby cornfield as deputies from Marshall and Morgan counties chased after him.
Walls said Speegle fired several more shots during the foot chase, so officers stopped their pursuit and set up a perimeter. An Alabama state police helicopter and Morgan County K9 units were brought in to assist with the search before it was called off around 5 a.m.
