(WAFF) - Monday, Alabama state lawmakers are returning to Montgomery for day one of the special session.

The goal? Approve a new general fund budget.
Last week, Governor Bentley said he talked with lawmakers and they're ready to solve this budgetary issue.
The 2015 regular Alabama legislative session ended on June 4 without an approved general fund budget in place for the 2016 fiscal year.

According to Bentley, the money from the BP settlement will be used to pay off debts. Bentley also said in his proposal he will not consider gaming, especially gambling casinos, as a solution to the state's budget shortfall.
Lawmakers have 12 meeting days within a 30 calendar day period to decide on a budget.
