HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The Huntsville Police Department is one step closer to obtaining body cameras for its officers.

The Huntsville City Council voted to pass two ordinances that would allow for the police department to purchase the body cameras.

Ordinance A would allow the police department to apply for a grant that would cover the cost of the cameras. The amount of the grant was raised to $650,000.

Ordinance B would ensure that the city council budgets for the body cameras in the upcoming fiscal year in case the grant falls through.

City officials expect Huntsville police officers to be equipped with the body cameras by 2016.
