LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - The deadline for the Lawrence County Sheriff to turn over information about a deadly officer-involved shooting has passed.

A judge ordered Sheriff Gene Mitchell to turn over any information about the death of Shane Watkins.

A sheriff's deputy shot and killed Watkins in March. It was later revealed by the man's family that he suffered from paranoid schizophrenia.

A Decatur newspaper filed a request for information about the incident.

Sheriff Mitchell claims he doesn't have that information.

He says the Alabama State Bureau of Investigations has all the information because they are handling the investigation.

He said all requests for information need to go through them.
