Christopher Trail was taken into custody Tuesday after employees at Redmont Pharmacy said he walked in with a shotgun and forced five of them into a back room, demanding drugs from the pharmacist.
Witnesses said the pharmacist, Donna Weatherford, convinced Trail to let the employees go, which he did. He then proceeded to hold Weatherford hostage for two hours.
According to the pharmacy's owner, J.C. Weeks, Weatherford told Trail he could have anything he wanted in the pharmacy. She gave him the drugs he asked for, and he started taking them and calming down, he fell asleep. She said she then took his gun and walked out of the pharmacy.
Trail was taken to the Franklin County Jail in Red Bay on Wednesday morning, according to Red Bay Police Chief Jana Jackson. Trail is being charged with five counts of kidnapping, theft, and robbery of a pharmacy. Trail is also charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief - police say he broke into a home and stole the shotgun he carried at the pharmacy. He is being held on a $450,000 bond.
After their escape, employees called their loved ones and thanked Weatherford for helping to get them home safely.
Weeks, said he couldn't say enough about Weatherford's control of the situation.
