MENTONE, AL (WAFF) - Multiple law enforcement agencies are looking into a murder investigation after the DeKalb County District Attorney confirmed one person was found dead at a home in Mentone on Friday

DeKalb County sheriff Jimmy Harris said it is now an active murder investigation after a woman was found brutally beaten behind a home in Mentone.

Sheriff Harris said another resident in the home initially made the original 911 call about the woman's body being found. Once investigators arrived on the scene, they found that the resident had scratches on him as well as a knot on his head.

The body has been transported to forensics to undergo an autopsy.

A forensics unit from Jacksonville State was on the scene to assist in the investigation.

Authorities later arrested 22-year-old Tyler Blansit for the death of his mother, Sherry Blansit. Sheriff Harris said Tyler admitted to striking his mother during an argument over his grades at UAB.
