Half-brother charged in Collinsville teen's shooting death

COLLINSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - The half-brother of a Collinsville teen has been charged in the shooting death of the teen.

In a press conference Thursday, DeKalb County District Attorney Mike O'Dell said Austin Buchanan, 20, the half-brother of Eli Estrada, has been charged with reckless manslaughter.

Estrada was

shot and killed on Sunday

. Officials responded to the scene and originally said it appeared the shooting was accidental.

Officials said he was shot with a .38 revolver gun that belonged to the boys' grandmother.

O'Dell said classified information and follow-up interviews indicated the incident is no longer considered an accident. Buchanan was arrested on a warrant on Thursday morning.

Buchanan is being held in the DeKalb County Jail on a $50,000 bond awaiting his 72-hour hearing. Officials said his charges are subject to change.
