13 suspects arrested after massive drug investigation in Decatur

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) - On May 13 and 14, agents with the Decatur Police Department's Organized Crime Unit and Anti-Crime Unit and Anti-Crime Unit arrested 13 individuals for distributing narcotics in Decatur.

Investigators purchased cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine, spice, and prescription pills during the investigation.

Authorities arrested the following people as a result of the bust:

Ramsey Terron Swopes

Swopes was arrested at his home and charged with two counts of distribution of a controlled substance for selling spice two separate times.

His bond was set at $10,000.

Christopher Danielle Ricks

Ricks was arrested at his home early Wednesday morning. During the arrest, Ricks was in possession of meth, drug paraphernalia, and illegally possessed prescriptions medication. In all, Ricks was charged with two counts of distribution of a controlled substance for selling ICE on two occasions, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Rick's bond was set at $13,000.

Brian O'Neal Cowley

Cowley was arrested at a home in Trinity and was charged with three counts of distribution of a controlled substance after selling cocaine during the investigation.

During the arrest, Cowley had marijuana on him and was charged with possession of Marijuana in the second degree.

Cowley's bond was set at $15,500.

Daniel Latez Burgess

Burgess was arrested when officer saw him walking in the area of West Moulton Street and 8th Avenue. Burgess was charged with two counts of distribution of a controlled substance after selling both cocaine and marijuana. Burgess also had two outstanding warrants for failure to appear.

Burgess' bond was set $12,000.

Gregory Labraughn Harris

Authorities found Harris walking down 11th Avenue and arrested him. Harris was charged with one count of distribution of a controlled substance after selling crack cocaine while under investigation.

Harris' bond was set at $5,000.

Marcus Cortez McDay

Officers tried to arrest McDay at his home for sitribution of a controlled substance but McDay wasn't there. Later that day, McDay went to the police department and asked why officer had come to his home looking for him.

McDay was placed under arrest at the police department for distribution of a controlled substance. McDay sold an amount of crack cocaine while under investigation.

Because of McDay's criminal history, the case investigator requested a higher bond for McDay.

McDay's bond is set at $200,000.

Lonnie Laymon

Laymon was arrested at his home Wednesday afternoon and charged with two counts of distribution of a controlled substance after he sold an amount of marijuana during the investigation.

Laymon's bond was set at $10,000.

Ricardo DeWayne Brown

Brown was found and arrested at a convenience store. At the time of his arrest Brown was highly intoxicated. He had also been advised to not return to the store, but he did.

In addition to the charge of distribution of a controlled substance, we was also charged with trespassing in the third degree and public intoxication.

Brown's bond was set at $6,000.

Carol Denise Buford

Buford was arrested during a traffic stop at the corner of 5th Avenue at 2nd Street. The arresting officer said the Buford had a handgun and spice in her possession. Buford did not have a permit to carry a concealed handgun. Buford also had a warrant out for her arrest charging her with trafficking in controlled substance analogs.

Due to her criminal history, her bond was set higher than usual at $271,000.

Tyler Rashad Sales

Sales sold marijuana twice while he was out of jail on bond from another case charging him with trafficking in cocaine.

Sales is currently being held in the county jail without bond.

Gerald Lamar Matthews

Matthews sold an amount of crack cocaine during the investigation. Agents knew that Matthews was currently being held in county jail on other drug charges under a revoked bond.

One count of distribution of a controlled substance was added to the additional charges that Matthews is facing.

Tyes Antonio Alexander

Alexander sold an amount of prescription pills during the investigation. He was arrested for several outstanding warrants not related to the investigation.

Since he was already incarcerated, the charge of distribution of a controlled substance was added to the charges he faces.

HIs bond was set at $5,000 for the narcotics distribution case.

Derrick O'Neal Hill

Hill sold amounts of spice, three separate times during the investigation. Officers found Hill near Mockingbird Lane. When officers asked Hill for his identification, Hill lied to them about his identity.

Hill also had spice and two active warrants for failure to pay. Hill was arrested and charged with three counts of distribution of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, fiving a false name, and two active arrests warrants for failure to pay.

Hill's total bond was set at $18,792.
