Neighbors of abducted child relieved he's found

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A small Huntsville boy is safe Monday night, after his mother allegedly abducted him.

Giovanni Pickett, 1, is safe and in DHR custody in Birmingham. The boy's biological father found the child in Birmingham after receiving a text message telling him where his son was.

The boy's mother, Keysa Pryor, is still on the run.

Pryor did not have custody of her son, but abducted him Sunday night, authorities said. The child was staying with an aunt in Huntsville.

Neighbors said they'd had issues with Pryor in the past and noted she had several run-ins with the law. Pryor pleaded guilty to bounced checks and obstruction of justice.

Other neighbors said they were surprised a child abduction would happen on their street.

"That's scary; that hit home," said one neighbor, who wanted to stay anonymous. "That's devastating. Sometimes we have our problems, but nothing compared to kidnapping, nothing like that. So it was devastating and shocking.

The same neighbor said she didn't even realized what had happened until the morning after.

"Four police out; I didn't know if it was a burglary, I thought it was a burglary," the neighbor recalled. "I really didn't know what was going on. The next morning, I got up and I seen channel 48 out there, and I knew something was wrong. Then I heard about the kidnapping and I prayed that... the child be found."

Pryor is wanted for interference of child custody.

DHR would not comment further on the case, however, the boy's aunt says she will no longer be able to adopt Giovanni.
