COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Emergency crews including medical helicopters were called to Highway 43 near Littleville in Colbert County following a wreck.

It happened before 5:30 p.m. Sunday, near the intersection of Highway 43 and Vandiver Hollow Road.

Officials and witnesses at the scene said a sport-utility vehicle ran off the road while traveling southbound on the highway.

The vehicle drifted about 200 feet, hit a bump and went airborne, officials said. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle flip multiple times before crashing into the side of a tree along an embankment.

The Colbert County Sheriff's Office confirmed two helicopters were called to the scene, along with "numerous" fire trucks and deputies.

Two people were airlifted to Huntsville hospital; Buddy Wayne Agee has since been released. The condition of the other person has not been released.

Traffic was halted or delayed sporadically over the course of about two hours while crews were at the scene.

An investigation into the wreck is ongoing.
