MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - The Madison Police Department is advising citizens to be aware of a telephone scam from callers claiming to be law enforcement.

Authorities state that the number on the caller ID can sometimes be set by the criminal to match the number of a legitimate agency.

The caller may warn the victim that there is a warrant out for their arrest and that the victim must send money on a Green Dot Card, Money Pak or by wiring money through the Western Union or Money Gram to avoid being arrested.

Madison police advise that no officer will call requesting money to avoid arrest and to never wire money from your bank through Western Union or Money Gram without verifying who is receiving the money.
