MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - The investigation into a body found over the weekend in Marshall County continues.

The body was discovered at a pond in the Horton area on Saturday, near the intersection of Moon Road and Otinger Drive.

According to neighbors who live nearby, the decomposing body was found near a boat at the pond.

Officials at this time believe the body is that of an adult.

The body is now at the Department of Forensic Sciences, awaiting an autopsy for the investigation by the Marshall County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators want to know who this person is and how they died.

One neighbor walks near the pond often, and says he had no idea until he arrived at church on Sunday.

"Yesterday there was a woman [who came] up to me and asked me did I hear about it," said Joseph Caton. "I said no; this is the first time I've heard about it. I kind of felt bad for the family that lost a loved one."

The county coroner anticipates that autopsy will take place as early as Tuesday.
