JACKSON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A former school resource officer at Skyline High School in Jackson County has been arrested on rape charges after a 2003 investigation was reopened.
Jackson County Sheriff Chuck Phillips says Lee Carrell Perry was a school resource officer at the school in 2003 when an investigation was opened surrounding Perry's interaction with a then-13-year-old girl.
Perry resigned over the investigation, although the girl didn't want to press charges.
"Now that she (the victim) is an adult, she has come back over to us and requested that we open the investigation again, which we did," said Sheriff Phillips.
Enough evidence was found to issue a warrant for Perry's arrest.
Investigators believe the sexual contact went on for some time.
Perry was arrested and charged with statutory rape, three counts of second degree sodomy, two counts of enticing a child and three counts of sexual content with a victim between the age of 12 and 16.
He was released Monday afternoon on a $65,000 bond.
Jackson County school officials did not comment on the arrest, but confirmed that Perry worked at the district as a resource officer.
