ETOWAH COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - An ex-coroner for Etowah County has been charged with stealing form the public during his time as coroner.
Michael Gladden, 40, of Gadsden is accused of falsifying mileage information and receiving payments for duties he did not perform, allegedly taking $40,207 in deceptive payments.
Gladden was elected to two four-year terms as the Etowah County Coroner and he lost a bid for a state House seat last year.
Gladden has been charged with felony theft by deception and a dozen misdemeanor charges of failing to file required reports, including death reports dating to January of 2014.
Gladden was arrested on Tuesday and has since been released on bond.
