Gas tanker overturns, catches fire, and explodes in Marshall Co.

GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A truck with gas cylinders overturned and caught on fire on Alabama 79 between Rogers Lane and Oakwood Village Drive in Marshall County on Wednesday morning at around 10:30 a.m.

The truck caught on fire while the driver was driving. He panicked, and that's when he wrecked and the truck overturned. The driver was not injured.

According to Marshall County Emergency Management Agency officials, it was a gas cylinder transport truck that overturned. There were 60 cylinders that contained propane, acetylene, and argon gases, and three or four tanks had exploded when crews arrived.

Guntersville Police and Fire responded to the scene as well as Nixon Chapel and Pleasant Grove Fire Department.

The highway is now cleared and reopened.

Emergency crews and cleanup crews are in the area and drivers are encouraged to use caution and be prepared to stop.
