FT. PAYNE, AL (WAFF) - On Wednesday, Ft. Payne police confirmed a fatal wreck on I-59 at mile marker 221 that happened around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday night.

A Freightliner owned by Tyson Foods and driven by Thomas Owen Cline, age 57 of Gadsden, collided with a Ford van driven by Enrique Petino, age 45 of Dalton, Georgia.

Both vehicles went off the road and caught fire. Clines was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dekalb County Sheriff's Office, Fort Payne Fire Department, Adamsburg Fire Department, Dekalb Ambulance Service, and the Alabama Department of Transportation responded to the accident. ALDOT closed the interstate down from 2 a.m. until 6 a.m.

The wreck is under investigation by the Fort Payne Police Department. The cause of the accident has not been determined and no further details are available at this time.
