HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - Several Huntsville residents plan to protest on Friday.

The buzz about the protest is spreading on social media, like Twitter and Facebook.

It's set for 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Oakwood University Church's parking lot. The flyer says the protest will block all traffic in that area and around University Drive.

Oakwood University stated that this is not a school sanctioned event. Students will, however, be allowed to demonstrate if they choose, but the school is asking them to do it lawfully.

Organizers say they're doing this to stand up against police officers' violence towards African Americans.

They're using the hashtag #ShutItDownHSV.

There are also reports of a post about a protest at 4:30 p.m. at Bridge Street.
