ATHENS, AL (WAFF) - In August 2012, a woman reported the theft of her personal laptop while at work, and months later the victim was able to identify the person who tried to unlock the laptop.

The $2,600 laptop had been taken from inside a bag in her office. She provided the information about the person to Athens Police Department.

Detective Eric White spoke with the person who tried to unlock the laptop and learned he got it from Chavon Haskell.

Haskell worked with the victim at the time of the theft and had access to her work space.

White interviewed Haskell by phone in March 2013. During the interview, Haskell agreed to return the laptop. It was shipped to the victim several days later.

A theft of property warrant was obtained for Haskell in April 2013.

She turned herself in at the Athens Police Department on Friday morning.

She was placed in the Limestone County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
