MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Law enforcement in Tennessee took a person of interest in a Madison County death investigation into custody after arresting him on a theft charge.
Mary Berryman was found dead in her home on Ready Section Road after her employer called the Sheriff's office for a welfare check. They were concerned because they had not heard from her in several days.
Deputies found Berryman dead in her bedroom on Tuesday night. Neighbors reported seeing her alive around noon on Sunday. They said they saw someone leave her house in her vehicle.
Lincoln County, Tennessee law enforcement later arrested Anthony Bevels for theft. They said he was found in Berryman's car.
Investigators said Bevels is a person of interest in Berryman's death, but isn't charged in connection yet. They don't know how the victim died, only that the death is suspicious.
Investigators are waiting for the autopsy results from the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
