LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A long-time Democrat appears set to keep his job as Limestone County Sheriff.
Sheriff Mike Blakely held a 60-40 lead over opponent Eric Smith throughout much of the night.
We caught up with Sheriff Blakely and Eric Smith as they voted this morning.
Smith announced his candidacy around a year and a half ago, and didn't stop knocking on doors and putting up signs.
Sheriff Blakely said he's handled this election like every other he's won over the last 30-plus years.
We've seen supporters for both sides out campaigning today trying to convince Limestone County voters their guy is the right choice for sheriff.
Other Limestone County ballot items: Seats on the Limestone County Commission went to Stanley Hill with an 82-percent vote and Jason Spencer Black with a 62-percent count.
