ATHENS, AL (WAFF) - It's back to normal operations at the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission returned the three-reactor plant to a normal inspection routine Monday.
The NRC said it took the action after the Tennessee Valley Authority made significant safety improvements following four years of heightened scrutiny.
The agency issued a rare red finding against Browns Ferry in 2011. The move came after it investigated how a valve on a residual heat removal system became stuck shut.
The increased oversight ended after a recent inspection.
The NRC said it will continue monitoring and inspecting the plant's overall improvement plan and safety culture.
