Police: 17-year-old arrested for allegedly shooting girl during fight

MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - A girl was shot and Morgan County police arrested a boy in connection with the shooting incident Friday at around 7:20 p.m.
Morgan County Central Dispatch received several calls of gunshots coming from the parking lot at Carrie Matthews Recreation Center on 6th Avenue in Decatur.
A girl suffered from gunshot wounds to both of her legs and was taken by a personal vehicle to Decatur Morgan Hospital. She was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later released.
Officers with the Decatur Police Department's Patrol Divison and Criminal Investigation Division responded to Carrie Matthews Recreation Center and Decatur Morgan Hospital.
During the investigation, officials learned there was a large group of juveniles in the parking lot of the center watching a fight. During the fight, 17-year-old, Ladalvin Montrelle Garland, fired multiple gunshots toward the crowd as they were dispersing.
That's when he struck the girl.
On Monday, Decatur Police Department detectives, with help from Huntsville Patrol Officers, found Garland at his home in Harvest.
Garland was arrested for second degree assault and taken to the Decatur City Jail where he was charged and booked in. He will be transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond set by the Morgan County Circuit Judge.
