5 arrested in Morgan County drug bust

MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - Morgan County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call for drug activity at the 100 block of NE Helms Road in Somerville on Friday.

When the deputies arrived, they found larges marijuana plants in the yard.

Officials identified Robert Sherrill Helms as the homeowner of the first home and Stephanie Vaught Helms as the owner of the second home. Franklin Spence Helms, Howard Maxwell, and Spencer McNeal Jr. were also present at the time.

The Morgan County Drug Task responded with search warrants for both residences.

Officials seized approximately 16 marijuana plants, a large quantity of harvested marijuana, cultivation equipment, and 3 firearms.

Franklin Spencer Helms, Stephanie Vaugt Helms and RobRoberterrill Helms were arrested for trafficking in marijuana and are being held on a $50,000 bond.

Howard Maxwell and Spencer McNeal Jr. were arrested for loitering in a drug house and are being held on a $300 bond.
