PHIL CAMPBELL, AL (WAFF) - After more than three years, the Phil Campbell Bobcats finally have a home of their own.
Inspectors gave the final okay on Tuesday on the new building. It's been a long time coming for the students and community after an EF 5 tornado destroyed parts of the town, including the high school, in 2011.
The move-in date is a couple of weeks behind schedule due to minor issues, but officials said those items have been corrected and they were given the go-ahead to move in on Tuesday afternoon.
Students and teachers will return to the churches where they've been attending classes, just as they have been doing this school year.
School will be dismissed on Thursday and Friday for high school students to allow teachers and staff to move into the new building and get settled.
It's unclear if the high school will have to make up those days or not. The superintendent said the opening of the school has been a long time coming and that everyone is thrilled to have the school rebuilt.
